I'm a Vietnam Combat Veteran (2/502 inf 101st Airborne) I've seen and used (M-16, LAW, M-79 and my Colt 45) combat weapons. After I was wounded I ended up at 95th EVAC in Da Nang, Vietnam. Something that is never mentioned is the ammo we used in those weapons. An M-16 (or AR-15) round hits the human body and tumbles inside causing massive internal damage … the round can enter you leg and exit you hip. I've saw men a that hospital who had been hit with that weapon and with an AK-47. One who was hit with the AK had the round go through both upper leg muscles, missing the bones. … no tumbling, just 4 clean holes with the last one being about the size of a 25 cent piece. An M-16 round does unreal damage!
I hunted in Northern Michigan on our 165 Acre property all my youth, from rabbits, before going to church on Sunday morning to Deer hunting in Mid-November. We ate what we killed as I had 4 brother and sisters. I took "gun safety classes" in Boy Scouts. I had to take a test for my hunting licence back then.
I fired expert in the Army with EVERY weapon I was trained on (9 years Army) and was our team sniper in the VN war. I'm 73 and some nights I remember those personal kills in my dreams, like they just happened. Over 50 years later … I wouldn't want anyone to have that experience, been there and done that. I moved to Australia to teach in 1979. We outlawed weapons here, except for farmers and people employed in jobs that would need one… Young men buy these to feel manly, and that's it. You don't need a 30 round magazine for Deer hunting, in VN walking point my M-16 had 18 rounds in my mag … I know this is long, but finally remember the Army only has a little less than 10% of their troops in Combat Arms who are trained with those type weapons … usually around 20 weeks total for 11B (infantry) … I can't imagine some 20 year old needing one and that idea is fearful to me… please… Be Safe,

I don't care what a gun looks like, I'm more concerned about what the aftermath of the bullet looks like. Some of these weapons have no use aside from blowing giant holes in things. Not needed for any reason. Even infantry doesn't use weapons that do that kind of damage to targets.

People who decide not to REGISTER their rifles as assault weapons or are unaware of this legislation would indeed become felons. If you do not take action to comply with the new law you will absolutely become a felon, it's not like you just keep your firearm and do nothing and you're automatically in compliance with the law. I have lived in countries with strict gun control, so much less crime. It is such an issue that those of us who can afford it will retire to other countries. Most of my friends will no longer visit the US or send kids to college in the US because of guns. I doubt people realize how this image impacts things overall. The US is seen as unstable because we cannot enforce a basic thing that many countries can, the ability for citizens to be safe and children to be safe in schools. It is a sad turn of events and organizations; politicians need to be held liable. Ever notice how they don't mention if the person was an NRA member or seldom where they bought the weapon? The NRA will drop their membership, clean their data to avoid involvement. Why doesn't the government come down on those mom/pop shops selling illegally? Corruption is like a cancer, ignoring it does not cause it to go away. It is easier to get a gun than a motor vehicle and there is the idea that there is no liability for shooting someone and people wave guns in traffic. A society that functions like this proves there needs to be gun control, screening processes.

Well 9/11 wasn’t caused by gun violence. Look I live in Texas, so gun ownership is normal to me. I don’t own a gun though. I like having the freedom to own a gun if I choose to. I don’t think people should openly carry them everywhere they go. If people carry an ar-15 in Walmart, like in El Paso, it’s legal, until they start shooting people. That’s f*cking retarded! Republicans want it to be legal for people to have guns on the campus of a school. They don’t like that it’s a gun free zone.
