When did you get the new jacket?
I know you want to make fun of folks who rest their rifle on the palm (with good reason if they’re doing it on their magazine) but that’s a very common practice in precision shooting, Like Olympic level competition.
Just a Simple Thank You From a Vet to a Vet of Common Shooting Rifle Skills
So much to discuss..
I call it fast draw rifle.
Just one added recommendation when any shot fired, All ways follow through, call the shot.
The concentrated effort will also reduces flinch.
Thanks Paul.
Maybe, probably you have covered this an I just missed it.
Sighing in your firearms.
I have always recommended no more than 75 ft. Takes out any shooter errors.
Now just know your ammo trajectory.
Pistol I sight in at no more than 25 ft.
Opinion?
As a shooter who uses the strap-around-the-arm technique, I find that the most important thing to keep track of is that the firearm is not tilted to one side as a result of your sling being pulled by your left arm. This angle will change the point of impact depending on your rifle’s and ammunition’s ballistics
Hello Paul, I have a question. The shooting range that I go to has the rifle range set up to where I can only shoot from the bench. The pistol range is the only place that I can shoot standing. Does shooting pistols well translate to shooting rifles well, or are they different from one another to the point that I have to shoot a rifle to become better at shooting a rifle?
Thanks for this Paul
Important fundamentals
I have always loved the "hasty sling" ever since learning it in Recruit training. I use it when hunting and just everyday shooting. Even with a pellet rifle. When It comes to AR's and AK's I like the 2 point and single point slings ( depending on the rifle) slung over the body and adjusted so that it fits tight into the shoulder. I need every little advantage in stability and "Natural Point of Aim" I can get when shooting offhand.
I like how ALIVE this video was. No cuts, no transitions, we went from talking to shooting, to walking to the target!
4:00 I mean, you could… it just might not be the bullets that end up killing the deer 🤣
I've seen some voodoo shit on the range when it comes to stances, grips and prepairing to shoot in general (should have seen it to believe it type stuff).
Personally I've found that I'm most accurate when I take a stance and grip the gun in a way that's most comfortable for me, but that's limited to static shooting in a range environment. It's not hard to imagine that, in a more dynamic environment, one would have to take what ever they can get instead of always getting into an ideal stance, grip or shooting position.
Where I live we have to qualify every year to hunt deer. 10/10 kill shots at 200 meters offhand. I would love to say that it’s no problem but honestly, I have to train for a bit before I step into the qualifying line. No one here speaks English so I have to give a big thanks to Paul for the info on what I need to do over the year to train. Been shooting for 30 years, 6 years as an 11B and Based on “my training, my experience”, best to be quiet, listen and learn.
Thanks Paul
Great instructional video as always Paul, and highly entertaining. I always learn a thing or two from your videos and I appreciate all the thought and work you put into them.
I have a question for you, or anyone out there that may have an answer. Why, in the case of accurate rifle shooting in an offhand position, would your support arm be extended? I was taught by my local firearms instructor to bring that elbow close to the body in order to have a more stable platform for the rifle, and also to mitigate fatigue. I'm not saying this is better, I'm merely asking why you do it the way you do it.
Thanks.
Am I the only one that wanted him to wear a boonie hat for this video?
Solid dude right here…. Respect
That little hissy fit dance… Lmao… Pricelessly hilarious.
100 percent true

Paul, we were taught to do the arm wrap with a sling. But I noticed when the military switched sling styling, this kinda ended. Maybe that's part of it? The difference in sling styling to allow faster target acquisition?
Paul, on the trashy people getting things closed down, that hits home for other groups, too. We're full-time RVers, and there are a lot of places being closed to "dispersed camping", where we would be able to set up camp for a couple weeks, at no cost to us but with no services, for just this sort of reason. People go to these sites, and make a mess. It may be simple trash, or it may even be human and animal waste. They have zero sense of responsibility for their actions. Traditionally (like in my parents' time) this would be blamed on "kids" or "teenagers", but that's bull. It's people who are old enough to know better, probably do know better, but choose to act as they do anyway. I hope you manage to shame some of those who leave messes at ranges, and get them to change their ways, even make up for it a bit by cleaning up after others. I've also seen responsible people who go out of their way to clean up messes left by others, not because they've been shamed into changing their ways, but just because we were taught as kids to go that extra step, leave a place better than we found it.
I like to know where my sights are when it goes off (offhand) so I don't like to be surprised. Anyone else do this where you take out as much slack as possible offhand and deliberately give it that last squeeze while on bullseye? I shot Expert in Leonardwood more times than Sharpshooter so I'm confident with my abilities (using the shite M4 loose flip-up sights. You M16A1 boys were spoiled on range day (not on rucks though)
My old man started me off with a 30-06 and a 12 gauge for deer hunting at 12-years-old and 64 lbs, so I'm basically immune to flinches at this point. It's fun being in a 40-yr-old tree stand that consists of a single 2×4 between a tree fork 18 ft off the ground deciding to only shoot a neck-mounter because it's 50-50 you're going off the back of this thing from the recoil.
I totally agree Paul. I've come across many places in oregon, particularly west of Roseburg where idiot alcohol drinkers drive around littering the mountains with beer cans and other garbage, including thousands of spent cartridges, targets, and other junk they haul out to shoot at and then just leave it there to destroy the beauty of the mountains. These scumbags need to be taken out back of the wood shed and taught a lesson they will never forget.
