The US Army’s new belt fed Machine gun the M250 will be replacing the M249 SAW, the world is changing. Today we visit Sig and are given the rundown on the new belt fed machine gun that US Service Members will be carrying. The M250 fires the potent 6.8×51 (277 Fury) Hybrid cased round. It should be noted that due to the more secretive nature of the projectile used in this weapon that accuracy testing could not be done and all rounds after firing had to be pulled from the sand berm. In the future we will likely be visiting upon those two points.

This is by far the coolest fighting gun revolution I've seen in the past 5 years easily. Just everything, ease of use design cartridge it fires, and so on. And then all of a sudden out of nowhere we're told that there will be a variant that comes chambered in .338 Norma Mag. Like wtf are you kidding me. Mind blown…mic drop. Thank you Garand we love you!

How much less 6.8 ammo can you carry vs 5.56? I think this will be the determining factor for how much actual guys killing people like this system. Looks cool, some neat features, but I'd take the saw and 600 rounds of 5.56 vs 70% of the ammo and this pig in a gunfight every day of the week. Neat tho.
I am a former 82nd Airborne Infantryman and Saw Gunnner. I loved the saw and feel it was extremely effective and reliable. I think this new weapon is a huge waist. Money we don't have and a weapon we don't need.

I’ll also say the bipod locking into the MLok slot is probably gonna be an issue because a lot of saw gunners run foregrips

The M250 and M5 are absolute beasts, 6.8×51 in a lighter, suppressed – and in this case – internal-recoil-controlled weapon… but the absolute game changer is the weapon fire control sight that will ship with it, the Vortex Optics XM-157.
That futuristic sight has a laser rangefinder, ballistic solver, environmental sensors, aiming lasers, digital compass, and wireless communication . It does the ballistic math to inject a digitally displayed image into the first focal plane of the optic to support ballistic drop reticle shapes of various sizes using the integral ballistic solver, including gathering atmospheric information, and displaying an illuminated "Active Reticle" corrected aimpoint with wind holds into the shooter’s sight picture, all in tenths of a second. It also includes additional modes to display waypoints, identified threats, and fields of fire using the inter-soldier wireless system. Seriously, WTF, that's right out of a video game. And each M-250/M-5 gets one.
Combined with the M-250 and M-5, the (X)M-157 sight is going to make each soldier an aimbot marksman digitally targeting threats in cohesion with their aimbot squadmates.
