Even the canon r6 have big problems with older EF telephoto lenses. 70 200mm f4 is usm hit rate eye focus very low, canon 300mm f4 is usm even worse then bad. Why even bother to sell is the adapter. Just be honest canon let us know in advance forget about the old EF lenses system buy the new RF lenses instead. In my opinion the EF adapter is waste of money when it comes to older EF telephoto lenses.
At 4:39. Wait, where's Chris?
How will this body work with olympus 12-100mm?
Damm, I was gonna get this camera, but not now. Sounds like a piece of shit according to him.
Technically, i wouldn't spent 1500 bucks into a system, which has currently only two native lenses. I found the body ugly from design. Yes, i know, more RF-S lenses are coming, and one could mount RF lenses. No BSI tech stacked sensor into 2022 – and what about the rolling shutter effect? Into contrast, Fujifilm does have a complete, native 35 prime lenses and zooms lineup, plus 2 teleconverters for their APS-C X-Mount system, without counting 3rd party lenses from Sigma, Tamron & Viltrox, and of course the 26 MP X-Trans Sensor is BSI tech, also a stacked variant into the latest X-H2s.
For instance, by design the X-Trans Sensor does have a 20% resolution advantage over a ordinary Bayer color filter array (CFA), also X-Trans is always without an AA filter inside the OPLF. Guess what, Canon does use a AA Filter, which further reduces the resolution. So the 32.5 MP are mostly marketing hype, compared to the 26 MP X-Trans Sensor. (Look Ma, we do have the highest MP count on APS-C….) I'd say it's exactly the same Sensor, like into the EOS 90D, and M6 II, the images have some more details, because it's right now the Digic X processor, instead of the older Digic 8, which is less powerful. Canon does have a real long history, recycling Sensors.
No hard feelings, just the facts.
Great review, when I compare your Sensor video with this one, basically GH6 vs R7, I was surprised! Usually, Canon has this magic sauce with the picture detail thickness, but not this time. To my old laptop, your other video shot on GH6 looks better and less mushy with a more detailed picture. I was expecting the opposite, but this is the Canon Cripple hammer I guess. ! lol.
It is really a wonderful review and many aspects have been explained. I am presently using 7D ii + 100 – 400 mm ii + 1.4 iii extender (occasionally). With this combination, I feel out of camera photos are not so good beyond ISO 1600. Do you think, it will be a substantial upgrade if I switch over to R7 without changing the lens? Understand that autofocus will be much better with R7. However, my main concern is IQ at low light and subsequently high ISO performance. I am predominantly engaged in bird photography. Request for your comments please. Regards
what lens line up for a crop sensor would be consider complete offering? primes – 12mm/16mm / 24mm/35mm …. and Zoom Xmm-Xmm?
I did try the EF 8mm-15mm fisheye — not to bad … 12mm-24mm field of view
The af wasnt perfect … And The wabble IS horroble. I think this is good first camera to buy … So when you upgrade from this you are goin to Be so Happy when everything Works better
Guys, before you buy a camera, always rent. Dont spend money just based on some review. Feel for yourself if its what you need.
Even though I only watched up until 1:55, thank you very, very much. By that point you'd shared that once again there's no mode dial lock and that they're playing musical chairs with the controls again, thus requiring more retooling of years / decades of muscle memory for no reason other than for them to say, "Hey, it's better because it's DIFFERENT."
Hard pass.
These guys are Canon haters. Always have been. Nice moire test shirt.
The boy in a go-kart is you 10years younger?🤣
Jordan, can you switch the video to left, photo to right and the off switch to the middle?
Question on the lens lineup. Do the RF lens work with this camera? The comments about having to use an adaptor for EF lenses makes sense, but was the issue with RF lens mainly the price?
Looks overly saturated to me
I just ordered an R7. Have plenty of RF glass since I have two R5s, I mostly want it for wildlife and other shots where the full frame just doesn't provide enough reach.
Best vlogging camera? I actually got really dizzy and motion sickness watching you try to vlog on this thing with the horrible focus hunting all the time and really poor stabilization.
this is the most negative and worthless review out here for this camera. complain over buttons ….dont make me laugh.
For a wide prime, IE for vlogging, what about the RF 16mm? It's "affordable" and compact. Is 25mm equivalent not wide enough?
Excellent.
Compared to the Sony A7 IV is this better! Cos both are same priced in my country?
Great video 🙌🏽🙌🏽, I’m still confused 😕 even more ., I do sports and weddings ., I have an 7D2 and 90D ., I’m deciding R7 or R6? Your saying it’s not worth placing the RF lenses on the R7 because it’s a crop?
Very nice review of the r7. Unfortunately for us in the UK canon has decided to provide it to the rest of the world before the UK. Looks like next year or even later, but thanks for the informative video.
thanks Jordan
Very useful and entertaining .
The RF 100-400 has been tested on full frame camera and found to be an excellent value for money. BUT soft in the corners..
On the Crop sensor R7 & R10 the RF 100-400 has a field of view of 160- 640 .
And because the sensor is only using the center of the image circle the corners in the images are sharp.
A R7 + RF 100-400 ( FOV 160-640) today costs $2,098.00.
A R10 + Rf 100-400 ( FOV 160-640) costs $1,578.00.
The Sony FE 100-400 lens only cost $2,498.00 .
The Sony FE 200-600 Lens only costs $1,998.00
The Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM 'Contemporary' Lens only is $899.00
Canon RF 100-400 lens only is today on sale for $599.00
Plenty of choices.
All cameras can take great photos. How much are we willing to spend?
I am sorry I have viewed the video several times and have NOT found the handsome devil or the button pushing clicky sound..
Is handsome devil off making clicking sounds… in the GO Karts..?
Thank you for a useful and entertaining video.
Do you know how the autofocus performs with older EF mount lenses as opposed to the newer mirrorless lenses?
This review is flawed ….. you make no mention of the Machine gun sounding .. Mechcanical shutter .. When all the Gear Channels were pushing it for Wildlife/Bird .. Genre Why in the heck would you buy a camera .. that has a Horrendous noisy shutter ..
When the noise would comprimise your position .. faster than being seen by the intended target . None of the shutters on it are truly silent .
And i've already read folks comments of being let down by the camera and handed it back
I’ve had good results Vlogging using the EFS 10-18 4.5-5.6 IS lens. Adapted it really is a beast for Vlogging
I think Sony need workshop from Canon in regard of Lcd screen resolution and quality. Hand down the app-c camera in the camera world.
Why you'd be dissin' my favourite EF lens? The 85 is just too good for the R7!
Please make canon r7 vs Fuji xt4
so why not just buy a nikon z6 (first gen) or a sony or fuji ? i can't see any major advantages.
Suggestion:
1n 2018 Canon introduced Fv mode on the mode dial. For PHOTOs not video.
Many photographers have complained that the R7 has only two dials or wheels .
Cripple hammer..
They prefer three to control 1. Aperture 2. shutter 3. ISO
Using Fv mode you can control Ap, Sht, and ISO
using TWO dials or wheels. instead of three.
Brilliant..

People should stop banging on about the lens mount. There are plenty of RF lenses available, quite a few of which are very affordable. Also many people, like myself, are buying it as a second body to their existing R camera
Until Canon releases third party lenses. No Canon for me.
Mine arrived yesterday, I'll be pairing it mostly with the RF 16mm f/2.8 and the RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8.
I was super keen on the RF 24mm f/1.8 until they announced the price – so I stuck an EF-S 24mm f/2.8 pancake on it for about 1/5th the price.
Recent discovery – you can have three control dials active at once in the R7's Manual mode to control aperture, shutter speed and ISO simultaneously with the histogram live all the time. Here's how:
This setup relies on using the control ring on the lens as the third control dial, so on lenses like the R7's kit lens that use the control ring for focusing, you sacrifice manual focusing, but with lenses that have separate focus and control rings there's no sacrifice. That's any EF or EF-S lens with the EF to R Control Ring adapter, and any RF lens with both focus and control rings – like my Canon RF 100-400mm lens.
To set this up, go to page 6 of the AF tab in the settings screen and set the Focus/Control ring to Control rather than the default Focus setting.
Then go to page 3 of the Camera tab and in Customize Dials you set the three dials up however you like. Since I used a pre-EOS Canon FT-QL for nearly forty years before going digital, and thus I'm used to having an aperture ring on the lens, I set the Control ring on the lens to AV. Since I'm used to setting the shutter speed on the top of the camera, I set the Main Dial to TV, and I put ISO control on the Quick Control Ring around the joystick next to the viewfinder. (Film cameras changed the ISO by changing the film you were using!)
But you can assign those three functions between those three dials however you like.
PS If you frequently want to focus manually with a lens that has only one ring, you can set one of your Custom Settings up to use the Control Ring on the lens for focusing and use the other two control dials however you prefer.
Hi! Thanx for the review. Regarding your EF criticism: does that include the EF 100-400 II? Because that would really be a bummer……
