Paper Gun Sale Records Pile Up With ATF Prevented From Upgrading Tracing
The ATF traces guns used in crimes, however federal law is getting in the way. Gun sales have to be recorded but there’s no law requiring dealers to digitize them, causing stacks of documents to pile up. There’s currently no way to enter a serial number and search for the gun owner. Many say the decades old tracing system needs to be updated.

Good. Never give the fed govt more power.. I’m very friendly with law enforcement in my area. They didn’t need feds to help them, they are capable on their own 99% of them time. The fed mostly come in uninvited.

Not only is there no law to digitize, but they obstructed our ability to store digitally. Before you can store digitally, they had to inspect you. But they didn’t do inspections for the last two years. Just now they decided to waive the inspection process. The red tape? It’s from them! Also, now they’re on a rampage to shut down dealers under Biden. A single clerical error can get you shut down. So whatever their problem is now, they’re pouring fuel on the fire. Also, if you think they’re not making a searchable database, you’re a fool. They’ll say they aren’t but of course they are.
