Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years, I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, become an integral part of our ecosystem, and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I’ve seen the beauty that everyone should see and survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish, or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

I’ve been using the Bore sighting ever since I was 7 years old my Grandfather showed me how to bore sight
i love my laser bore but classic bore sight is great to know all the same
Not wat I thought bore sighting was.
I miss my 260 it was a lazer
What about a Mini-14 how do I bore sight it?
The day I have so many rifles that I have to actually double check the caliber will be the day I’m finally and truly happy
Great explanation and example of how to field zero. My Dad's Buddy was a Guide and he taught me this system about 60yrs ago and it's never failed me…I wonder how many rounds I've saved over the years using this system? Probably more than a box or two…YA THINK??? LOL
I always enjoy your way of teaching us and showing examples how things are PROPERLY and ECONOMICALLY done.
I wish we lived closer and I'd buy you lunch just to chew the fat…LOL
No break-in cleaning process??
Thanks for the tip, Ron. That's looks like it works well.
I have boresight lasers, bullet shaped, sits in bore and the bolt turns it on as it’s closed. But from the front of my apartment to the back is, maybe, 30 feet. I wish I had an outdoor area with 25 to 100 yard ranges, for sighting scopes.
Laser bore sights are super handy, and can be done in most living rooms.
I shoot 3 shot grouping, make adjustment shoot another to see the end result the shoot another 3 shots to confirm zero takes me 9 rounds
Thank you for your wisdom.
Thank you from New Zealand much appreciated by someone just getting into rifle marksmanship
Thank you for the video.
I laugh at all these guys who shoot all these shots to sight in a rifle!!! Get a lead sled, shoot your rifle dead center and shoot! Then put the rifle back in and lock it down back in the center, MOVE YOUR CROSS HAIRS TO THE BULLET HOLE, BOOM YOU'RE SIGHTED IN, RAISE IT A TAD FOR LONGER SHOTS!!!! DONT TOUCH THE RIFLE AS YOU MOVE THE CROSS HAIRS TO THE BULLET HOLE
I always sight in at 25 yards. Puts you high about and inch at 100. 25 is ez to steady scope at. You have to really turn that scope sometimes but it’s much easier to see at 25. Harder to hold steady on a target further away. Great video. Lot if good info.
Could you not move cross hairs to bullet hole at 25yrd as well and do same thing?
Not everyone has a fortune for a sled so it would be a lot cheaper to buy a laser bore sighter my friend
That's got to be a $150 to$250 sled I can get 10 to 20 laser bore sight cartridges for the same price
Hate to admit it, I love guns but never really been taught how to sight one in, I literally slapped a scope on and took a shot, my immediate thought was “oh God”, thanks for the informative video man it helps more than u know👍🏻
Man, what a load of folderol. Just do your elevation and windage tweaking so as to group 3 inches high at 25 yards and you’ll be dead-on at 100 yards.
This is how we were taught when we were kids. 25 yard bore site this way. There were a few times where we only had to make one adjustment when bore sighting our 22’s in like this.
Is that a new 700?
Sorry I’m advance if this is a stupid question but are you zoomed in anything on your scope on the 25 yard paper? Thank you
Only difference in my method is I bore sight at 100 yrds, not 25 yrds. Most critical part is securing the rifle to be able to move the reticle to the bullet hole without moving the rifle. I use the lead sled as well, but also additionally secure the rifle to it to minize any rifle movement.
Thanks Ron for the tips going to try it this weekend been sighting guns for 37 years but like what you just showed me
HAIL Canada!
Excellent lesson from Ron but Paul's LoS suggestion has me thinking I have a lot to learn…
I bought my Remington 700 about 4 years ago and was so excited to zero it- I really wish this video existed back then!! This is like watching Bob Ross teaching me how to zero a long range precision rifle and I mean that in the best way possible lol. Thank you so much for this thorough explanation. Your enthusiasm and sincerity made this so much more enjoyable to watch!!
Great info! Thanks
wheeler green bore sight laser magnetic… comes with target for 25 yrds for laser only. few clicks and you're ready for the range.
Buy a boresighter,cheaper than a lead sled!!
Always good to have an assistant to dial the turrets while you hold the rifle, while checking the movement of reticle B. buy a quality scope with accurate adjustments ,some are terrible .Meopta is a good value scope with accurate adjustments .
Is that a Mossberg patriot?
What model Lead Sled is that you have?
Seemed to me you were moving the rifle too much after each shot for a good consistent hold and group.
I git thu point of the vid tho..
Okay now you have zero I'm guessing cuz that's about the backwoods way of doing it I guess. But now you have to change adjustments for a different Target do you know what you're doing or you going to have to disassemble your rifle and look down the barrel and try to aim it all over again I mean come on learn the right way or just put it back in the box man.
You're never going to find zero in the field if you don't know what you're doing with your scope count your clicks know your rifle or own a pistol. Stop half-assing stuff it could be your life that matters.
1 inch low at 25 yards with a 3006 dead on at 100 yards ..
Very helpful, thank you.
